How to Prepare for a Winter Surf

1    patch your winter reef wounds
2    stand in front of the heater in your underwear
3    drink something hot
4    stand in front of the heater some more, this time in your wetsuit
5    warm your hands
6    run, don't walk
7    surf, don't sit

You are a trooper! And I thought snowboarding was brutal but I think getting in FREEZING water makes you way more of a beast than I'll ever be :)

I must know, how cold is it? My chilliest was water temp about 50...and that is in the northeast...but I am the kind of person who'd wear a wetsuit in a pool. I don't like being cold. At all.

I had such high hopes for CA in the winter, but perhaps I'll need the full gear! EEK!

The big question is, how do you warm up afterward?

Have a rad weekend. xo

Haha this is so funny! Did the heater really help? How cold the water/air temp is? I feel like going to swim now!

These pictures are insane! Just found your blog and really love it :) I'm from Ventura County too, and am working in the OC. I don't get to the beach anywhere near as much as you do, but I'll be getting some of my daily dose from these gorgeous pics.

@Deirdre it's actually not that bad this year. Maybe 54 º at the coldest. But you definitely need a full suit and booties most CA winters, even in San Diego. If you can handle 50º though, you'll be fine.

I'll take your cold over mine! Winter needs to be over in my parts. Dealing with the cold water in your parts sounds like its just as much fun as me being out in -35 C shovelling snow!!!
